IV. PROJECT BACKGROUND
As part of the Department-s thrust to develop voluntourism as a tourism product, the Office of Product Development (OPD) engaged the services of a consulting firm to conduct a research that led to the formulation of voluntourism framework and identification of pilot voluntourism sites in three regions: Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Central Visayas and CARAGA Region.
As an offshoot of the research, a series of workshops in the abovementioned areas were conducted using the framework. The workshops were attended by tourism stakeholders, local associations, and Local Government Units (LGUs) that provided inputs for the development of learning modules that aim to strengthen the capacity of the participating pilot host communities and position them as model voluntourism sites that the Department can showcase to local and foreign visitors.
