ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW

Assignment Title: 1265789 - Zambia: Girls Education & Women Empowerment & Livelihood (GEWEL) Project - Assessment of Phase 2 implementation of GEWEL Payment System

Assignment Countries:
- Zambia

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION

The GEWEL project targets women and adolescent girls from the poorest households in rural Zambia. The project provides comprehensive support, including a productive grant, training, mentorship, and savings groups, to enhance the livelihood capabilities of extremely poor women. The productive grant is typically used by these women to either diversify their income sources or enhance the productivity of existing activities. To support adolescent girls in their transition to productive adulthood and increase the gender parity of secondary school attainment, the project provides them with bursary support to help them finish secondary school or to return to school if they have dropped-out. Through improved livelihoods, incomes and resilience for the poorest households, and higher educational attainment for young girls belonging to those households, the project aims to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty.
