Tetra Tech is now accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates to join the Washington DC-based FEWS NET Pillar One - Emergency Food Security Analysis Team, to facilitate rapid start-up should USAID award this Task Order to Tetra Tech.

FEWS NET is a leading provider of food insecurity monitoring and early warning services that enable the US Government and its partners, including governments and national, regional, and international government and non-governmental organizations, to prepare for and respond to food security crises anywhere in the world. FEWS NET is headquartered in Washington DC and has 26 country and regional offices in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The objectives of activities implemented under Pillar One are to: (1) build the evidence base for food security analysis; (2) carry out emergency food security analysis and decision-support; and (3) strengthen networks and local systems to improve their capacity to contribute to and utilize FEWS NET analyses and reporting.

The Food Security Analyst is one of four Washington DC-based positions that sit within FEWS NET-s Decision Support Team, which works closely with the project-s field offices and other technical staff to conduct food security analyses and create early warning and decision support information products for USAID/FFP as well as a global audience of humanitarian and development practitioners.

Responsibilities:

* Synthesize market and trade, nutrition, livelihoods, and other food security analyses into comprehensive food security early warning and decision support information products;

* Develop scenarios to forecast future levels of food insecurity;

* Provide ongoing monitoring of food security conditions in a portfolio of countries;

* Review field-authored reporting;

* Develop and present technical briefings to USG staff and partners;

* Contribute to the monthly Food Assistance Outlook Brief for senior staff of Food for Peace;

* Respond to ad hoc requests for food security and response and contingency planning analysis and other support;

* Conduct field visits to support assessments and technical analysis;

* Provide technical assistance to strengthen data collection, analysis, and information dissemination capacity among host-country, NGO, and donor partners and field staff;

* Provide relevant technical and geographic guidance in analysts- own areas of expertise, such as agricultural economics, livelihoods, nutrition, pastoralism/livestock;

* Contribute to the development of guidance materials in early warning, decision support, and reporting;

* Support activities to enhance staff and partner capacity in early warning and decision support processes;

* Travel as required (up to 25 percent of the time) to provide in-country support to FEWS NET field staff and partners;

* Report to Deputy Director of Decision Support.

Essential Qualifications and Competencies:

* Bachelor-s degree in food security related discipline, such as agriculture, economics, political science, social anthropology, development studies, conservation and natural resource management, climate and environmental sciences, etc. Masters preferred;

* A minimum of two years of experience working in a developing country preferred;

* At least two years professional experience conducting and reporting on food security analyses or designing, managing, and/or monitoring humanitarian response programs;

* Experience in scenario development and modeling preferred;

* Familiarity with household-level food security analysis, the Household Economy Approach, and the International Phase Classification System (IPC) preferred;

* Experience working with staff in multiple countries and across multiple cultural contexts preferred;

* Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills required;

* Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (required), Adobe Creative Suite, and ESRI ArcGIS (preferred);

* Fluency in English required; French or Spanish language skills preferred;

* Experience working on USAID-funded programs preferred.

* U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is an absolute requirement.
