To develop a strategy for the delivery of festivals and events in county sligo, particularly those seeking public financial support, that aligns with the ambition of the county sligo tourism strategy 2018-2023 i.e. To facilitate the delivery of a planned and coordinated event and festival series that attract overnight stays and events that support the differentiating features of the sligo story. The festival and events strategy should set out a tactical approach to the development of a framework for festivals and events. This includes a process that results in the identification of premiere festivals that could be developed into flagship events of national significance. (a clear set of criteria should be developed for this identification purpose that can be substantiated). It should also look at mid range and community based festivals in a tiered support structure. Overall, a clear rationale for the categorisation of festivals and tiers should be set out. The strategy should be accompanied by a set of guidelines for the practical implementation of festival funding and support which will involve setting clear criteria for applicants for applying for festival support under identified tiers. It should also, having reviewed the financial support available, integrate where possible the respective schemes, so that each scheme can continue to operate independently but having regard and working to an overall agreed and defined hierarchy. Multi annual support for larger festivals can be considered.
