Description: The National Institute on Aging (NIA) invites applications for new exploratory research projects (R21) involving secondary analyses of data and/or stored biospecimens from the CALERIE (Comprehensive Assessment of Long- term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy) trial. Noteworthy features of the CALERIE trial are the substantial size of the trial, the comprehensive physiologic, psychologic, quality of life, and cognitive assessments conducted, as well as the extensive collection of biological samples which include serum, plasma, urine, and biopsies from skeletal muscle (vastus lateralis) and adipose tissue (subcutaneous abdominal).
