The program Digital Rail (DSD) of DB Netz AG is designing a digitized rail system of the future and researching new fields of technology. The planning and control system CTMS (Capacity & Traffic Management System) is a core component of future railway operations. According to the current state of development, the CTMSwill be based on state-of-the-art algorithms from the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and operations research (OR).

The planning and control system CTMS (Capacity & Traffic Management System) is a core component of future railway operations. According to the current state of development, the CTMS will be based on state-of-the-art algorithms from the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and operations research (OR).
However, especially in the field of AI only a few solutions for the railway sector are known so far. Effective combinations of OR methods and AI are currently the subject of fundamental research.
