FE 02.0429 / 2019 / LRB Measures for dealing with Japanese perennial knotweed.

Main Site: Place of fulfillment: Bergisch Gladbach

On the one hand, traffic areas can provide valuable living space for a large number of peopleof animal and plant species. On the other hand, at the same time non-resident species prefer to be on public transport and spread along traffic routes. A nationwide survey showed that the Japanese perennial knotweed (Fallopia japonica) in particular caused significantly higher maintenance costs for operating services. For the removal of the BestaenOften herbicides are used which are not approved for use without permission and can not be used along waterways at all. Alternative Bekaempfungsmethoden often remain unsuccessful. Although the Knoeterich has been spreading along the road, railways and waterways for years, there is currently no single, efficient onecare measures. Due to the rapid dissemination, measures that can be implemented in a timely manner are urgently needed, as the operating services are foreseeably confronted with high costs.

In this project, concrete recommendations for the operational service to control the bone metabolism are to be developed and empirically tested. To ensure traffic safety, the results should already behelp in the short term to prioritize the fight against different locations. It is to be evaluated under which circumstances and at which locations a fight is necessary for reasons of traffic safety (also under high cost / personnel expenditure) and under what circumstances a stock can be tolerated. In addition, alternative methods for Bekaempfube developed in the accompanying green and for elimination or prevention in the soil and tested in situ. To comply with the legal requirements, should v.a. Alternatives to herbicide use will be investigated. New methods and solutions to combat this should lead to a sustainable avoidance of the disease on transport companions.
