Haulage and Treatment of Domestic Mixed Recyclables

Wigan Council is seeking a provider for the provision of the haulage and treatment of domestic mixed recyclables. The scope of the service shall cover all aspects of haulage, treatment, handling and marketing from the point of collection/reception to the sale and transfer of products and residues to the recycling sector. Wigan Council currently collects approximately 18 000 tonnes of domestic mixed recyclables per annum. The proposed contract will be for 2 years, extendable for 2 further periods of 24 months each.

Wigan Council is seeking a provider for the provision of the haulage and treatment of domestic mixed recyclables. The scope of the service shall cover all aspects of haulage, treatment, handling and marketing from the point of collection/reception to the sale and transfer of products and residues to the recycling sector. Wigan Council currently collects approximately 18 000 tonnes of domestic mixed recyclables per annum. The proposed contract will be for 2 years, extendable for 2 further periods of 24 months each.

Domestic mixed recyclable waste includes metal packaging (steel tins, aluminium cans, aerosols, foil, biscuit tins), glass bottles and jars, and plastic packaging (plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays). Target materials will be those advised in the WRAP (2016) Recycling Guidelines with the one exception that black plastic shall be accepted with mixed plastics. Treatment includes the separation of materials into marketable product types appropriate to meet the necessary quality standards for sale into the recycling sector, and the disposal of any rejects or non-recyclable residues.
