Purchase, Installation and Maintenance of a Gas Chromatograph Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer

The Scottish Ministers has a requirement to purchase, installation and maintenance of a GC-MS/MS for the determination of persistent organic contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in marine sediments and biota (e.g. fish, shellfish, etc.). Analysis of organic contaminants in sediment and biota is required for the OSPAR Coordinated Environment Monitoring Programme (CEMP) and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). Furthermore, to comply with EC directives, analyses of organic contaminants is undertaken in Scotland by MSS as part of the UK Clean Seas Environment Monitoring Programme (CSEMP). The equipment will be operated by scientific staff from Marine Scotland, Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen.
