Local Agenda 21 is part of the international program "Agenda 21" for Sustainable Development for the 21st Centuryn LA21 processes are implemented at the district level with the intensive involvement of the citizens. A process management office (Agendabuero) should undertake the following tasks: Activation and motivation of the district residents, development of projects with citizens, creation of cooperative relations between different actors, moderation and mediation, expert advice and Oeffenatlichkeitsarbeit.

In the 22nd district of Vienna (Donaustadt), the process and project management of the Local Agenda 21 process is to be taken over. Local Agenda 21 has been an important instrument of citizen participation and sustainable district development in the Danube city for 15 years. Central task is the involvement of citizens in brainstorming, planning, and implementation of sustainable district development projects. For this, suitable forms of communication and cooperation with the district policy, the city administration and technical experts must be set up. The main topics in the Danube city are the further development of the main topic food source Donaustadt. These include activities to strengthen awareness of regional verCare facilities in the Danube city and the involvement of residents in the design of natural recreational areas and community gardens. Furthermore, the creation of dialogues to avoid conflicts between nature conservation, agricultural use and recreation and the increased involvement of schools and young people in the LA21 Plus Donaustadt in connection with theDevelopment of a Bildungsgraetzl and smaller projects in the field of sustainable economics-digitization-Graetzlleben.
