Tender Details

Tenders are invited for Democratic Republic of the Congo: Consultants – Review of RFN`s Work to Promote and Sustain Indigenous Pygmies’ Peoples Rights in DRC.

Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) is one of Europe’s leading organisations in the work to protect the world’s rainforests and strengthen the rights of indigenous peoples, in cooperation with indigenous and environmental organisations in South East Asia, Central Africa and the Amazon. RFN focuses mainly on two sets of rights, which are fundamental to the fulfilment of other human rights for indigenous and forest-dependent peoples. These are the collective rights to self-determination and to land and resources.

RFN has worked in partnerships with civil society organisations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since 2003. This review covers the period 2013 – 2018.

RFN’s work on indigenous peoples (IPs) rights in the DRC has been implemented primarily by two national organizations. One of them in based in Bukavu, South-Kivu and supports indigenous peoples who have been evicted from the National Park of Kahuzi-Biega since the 70’s. Legal cases have been launched at the national level (Supreme Court) and at the regional level (African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights). The second organization is a national network based in Kinshasa with representation (“antennas”) across DRC. It is working with advocacy at national level in favour of IPs rights’ promotion and recognition, based on data from its projects in Mai-Ndombe, Equateur, South-Ubangi.

Purpose of the review

The purpose is to develop a better understanding of how RFN’s projects, via two national partner organizations focusing on indigenous peoples’ rights, contribute to promoting IPs’ access to land / resources and their right to self-determination, with a view to improve RFN’s overall approach to IP rights in DRC.
