Background:

MicroMentor, a social enterprise initiative of Mercy Corps, is an online platform that connects small business owners and entrepreneurs with skilled business mentors. Our mission is to leverage the power of mentoring to help small businesses thrive. We do so by offering entrepreneurs direct access to a pool of committed professional mentors. MicroMentor has an expanding community of more than 30, 000+ users and a record of more than 15, 000 mentor-mentee matches. Every year our community of mentors grows by over 3, 500, and makes over 10, 000 connections a year, making MicroMentor one of the largest mentor networks in the world.

Purpose / Project Description:

MicroMentor, supported by Argidius Foundation, is looking to expand its network of entrepreneurs and mentors in the LATAM region to facilitate Micro and Small business growth through mentoring. We are looking for a skilled and experienced professional who is able to guide the MicroMentor team to strengthen MicroMentor-s presence in Guatemala through mapping the entrepreneurial ecosystem including sources of entrepreneurs suitable for mentoring and mentors seeking to give back; identifying viable sustainability models; and, identify and forge strategic partnerships to achieve the above stated goals.

Consultant Activities:

The Consultant will:

· Analyze the entrepreneurial ecosystem and recommend opportunities for MicroMentor expansion in Guatemala.

· Analyze potential participant recruiting channels such as professional organizations and entrepreneurs- organizations, among others**, that will allow us to reach the most sizeable and viable populations suitable to take advantage of MicroMentor-s offerings in Guatemala.

· Analyze and identify potential local funding opportunities to help guide on program sustainability in the region.

· Conduct user research with entrepreneurs & mentors that already participate in MicroMentor or are potential users to understand gaps and provide recommendations to improve their experience.

· Organize 2 events to introduce the program with stakeholders (mentors & entrepreneurs and potential partners) to test best practice before systemizing and expansion.

Consultant Deliverables:

The Consultant will deliver:

A plan to strength the presence of MicroMentor in Guatemala, including:

· List of Potential Stakeholders

· List of Recruiting channels for entrepreneurs and mentors

· List of Potential local funders

· Results of user research

· Results of events and recommendation for future expansion of such tactics

· Other Recommendations critical for program growth

Timeframe / Schedule:

October 1st to February 1rst.

The Consultant will work closely with:

Required experience and skills

· Individual consultant

· At least 5 years of experience working with entrepreneurial organizations and 2 years locally in Guatemala.

· Master in related field desirable

· Knowledge and experience of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Guatemala

· Prior entrepreneurship or business start up experience a plus

· Effective verbal and written communication in English and Spanish is necessary

· Organizational prioritization and networking skills are necessary.

· Ability to travel up to 15% of time.

· Spanish proficiency/fluency preferred.
