Description : BACKGROUND

In the Division of Pacific Technical Support (DPS), the Pacific Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) and Health through the Life Course (PNH) assists the Pacific island Ministries of Health with implementation of health promotion interventions. This includes a focus on settings-based approaches, with an emphasis on schools. Health Promoting Schools (HPS) are an important strategy for influencing behaviour from a young age, and while HPS are commonly implemented in many countries, there is scope for strengthening the approach and/or coverage of these programmes, with a particular focus on sustainability.
