Tender Details

Tenders are invited for Individual Consultancy: Green Architect for sustainable space design UNICEF- Guyana (International) 522405.

UNICEF works in some of the world-s toughest places, to reach the world-s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, a safe environment

Background UNICEF is dedicated to environmental sustainability in its operations and a decent, healthy work environment. As per our greening policy issued in June 2015, UNICEF is stepping up its efforts to systematically green the organization, including reporting and investing in sustainable energy and resource efficient facilities and operations. This includes water, paper and waste management. In 2019, UNICEF is scheduled to move to a common UN premises and will need support to ensure a decent healthy and environmentally friendly work space. The estimated space for relocation is about 650 m2 and will accommodate 28 working stations. Further, UNICEF Guyana-Suriname Office continues to look at its environmental impact through reducing greenhouse gas emissions from air travel, vehicle fleets and facilities, and is committed to improve the accessibility of its premises to ensure that people with disabilities have adequate levels of comfort and mobility within inclusive UNICEF premises. The commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be maintained, through SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Therefore, acquiring support for a consultant to guide and lead this process, in our own premises and operations (as a starting point) sends a strong message about our dedication to walk the talk.

Purpose With UNICEF moving into the UN House, the green manager will support architectural design, electrical, data network, telephone including proposal for child-friendly recreational space and/or gym area in the UN compound. This should be done in harmony with policies that promote spaces for children and/or breastfeeding and the policy regarding disabilities and office design. In addition, the consultant will suggest measures to improve the eco-efficiency of UNICEF operations and premises, including reduced environmental impact. The specific objectives of this consultancy are as follows: •Encourage a decent, healthy and environment friendly workspace and determine space allocation for staff members (based on internal guidelines); •Review exiting layout, visit the site and propose the architectural, electrical, data network and telephone designs, and interior design (including other facilities needed for the office); •Coordinate with other UN-based contractors and UNICEF Operations to promote staff well-being through design of office space, including use of natural light; •Monitor the civil works; •Develop a plan of action with prioritized measures to reduce UNICEF's environmental footprint, including eco-efficiency interventions.

Qualification and Experience

•Certified “Green” Architect or an Advanced Degree in Architecture with a focus in sustainable space design; •Knowledge of interior design with specific qualification in “greening-the-office” approach; •Excellent communication, strong analytical skills.•Fluency in spoken and written English.
