Background The Secretariat of the Environment (SEAM), with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), presented the project "Asuncin Ciudad Verde de las Amricas - Pathways to Sustainability" to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) ", Prepared and to be implemented jointly with the Municipality of Asuncin, the Ministry of Public Workslicas y Comunicaciones, the Technical Secretariat of Planning, the National Emergency Secretariat, the Paraguayan Network of Sustainable Cities and Guyra Paraguay. This project of US $ 7, 493, 000 was approved by the GEF at the end of 2016, framed in its "Program of Integrated Focus of Sustainable Cities "that integrates 23 other cities from 11 countries aroundthe world. The objectiveof this five-year project is to improve the quality of life in the Metropolitan Area of Asuncin (AMA) and grant multiple benefits with equity criteria, through the integration of transportation and solid waste management and green infrastructure in a framework of sustainable and resilient city. To reach the proposed goalto, the project will develop actions to guide Asuncin and the 10 municipalities of its metropolitan area towards a sustainable and resilient urban environment through the approach of the main current urban problems; in particular the transport, the elimination of solid waste and the management of green areas, from a point of view of participation of the poin the process, under criteria of equity and inclusion. Theproject will implement a framework that addresses these issues in a systematic and integrated manner, thus giving an important step to improve the sustainability of the city.
