the ministry of health (the ministry) is responsible for british columbia`s (bc`s) public health system, with a mandate to guide and enhance the province`s health services to ensure british columbians are supported in their efforts to maintain and improve their health. The health system is one of the province`s most valued social programs as it touches all british columbians` lives, and at some point virtually every person in the province will access some level of health care or health service. Furthermore, good health is critical to overall well-being because it enables people to enjoy their lives, take advantage of education and employment opportunities, and participate fully in society and the economy.
the health innovation hub (hih) model developed within the ministry includes an innovation ecosystem anchored by a new physical space (the innovation centre). The main characteristics of this ecosystem are that it will be inclusive, collaborative, iterative and human-centred in nature. The areas of focus will be to:
. Identify and satisfy the evidence, research and data needs of each project;
. Ensure different perspectives are integrated into projects by inclusion of internal and external stakeholders on project teams;
. Build innovation as a core competency in the ministry, and support a culture of innovation;
. Provide easy access to best practice tools and curated resources;
. Develop a scalable, reproducible process to develop policy and creative solutions; and
. Evaluate and learn from successes and failures.
