definition of requirement
the department of fisheries and oceans and canadian coast guard has a requirement to provide a map of the carbon sequestration potential of eelgrass beds along canada`s pacific, atlantic, and sub-arctic coasts. An accompanying conceptual model outlining carbon sequestration potential under varying environmental conditions (based on field and literature data) will also be provided. These products will be used by eas to develop ocean accounts and ecosystem accounts. Application of project outcomes to marine spatial planning and conservation targets are also anticipated.


criteria for assessment of the statement of capabilities (minimum essential requirements):
any interested supplier must demonstrate by way of a statement of capabilities that they meet the following requirements:


minimum 10 years of research experience in eelgrass (zostera marina) ecology.
Knowledge of eelgrass phenology, growth, biomass accumulation, and ecosystem functions.
Experience sampling eelgrass beds for shoot density, canopy height, and aboveground and belowground biomass.
Experience sampling eelgrass beds for carbon stocks using sediment cores.
Experience calculating sediment organic carbon stocks in eelgrass beds.
Experience in mapping eelgrass bed extent from various types of available data. In possession of available eelgrass extent data (verified and unverified) from the pacific, atlantic, and sub-arctic coasts.
