Abstract: The services being provided under this contract are the provision of the infrastructure to capture and transfer flows from the adit to a temporary treatment scheme, designed to be suitable for the onward transfer of water to a permanent location and the design, supply and installation for a temporary mine water treatment system.Coal mine water is currently discharging into the River South Esk from the Old Fordell Adit. Groundwater levels have been rising in the area since mining ceased in 1989 and The Coal Authority (TCA) has been monitoring this discharge for a number of years. Recently, the water quality of this discharge has deteriorated and is now impacting the River South Esk.It is anticipated that a temporary plant will utilise HDS technology, however other technologies may be considered where it can be demonstrated that they have suitable reference experience on coal mine waters and can be deployed within acceptable timescales.
