The island is home to five families of endemic plants, about 14, 000 plant species, of which nearly 90% are endemic. The diversity of primates is exceptional with 101 species and subspecies all endemic. The five endemic bird families account for 51% of the diversity. Of the 370 reptile species, 90% are endemic.
