Through EPSRC investment the ISL will be developing a national user facility (HADES) for the materials science of radioactive waste management and disposal as part of the Sheffield hub. This will build on previous investment of £3M by the Department of Energy and Climate Change and University of Sheffield to establish the allied MIDAS facility.A dedicated Glovebox system for the handling and processing of uranium and thorium will strengthen the world-leading centre for nuclear materials research at the University of Sheffield.
