Tender Details
The Department is seeking to engage an organisation/s or consortia experienced in providing sign language (predominantly Australian Sign Language) interpreting and translation services with a demonstrated understanding of the aged care environment to provide services to older Australians who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing that are wishing to access and/or are in receipt of Commonwealth funded aged care services.
The Australian Government aims to provide choice through a range of options to support older people who need assistance. This includes supporting people to remain living at home and through residential care for those who are no longer able to continue living in their own home.
My Aged Care is the entry point and service delivery platform for the Australian aged care system, supporting millions of vulnerable older people and those who care for them. My Aged Care can be accessed through different channels, including face-to-face, telephony and online options, providing consumers with choice that best meets their needs and preferences. My Aged Care provides information about aged care through a website and service finder, eligibility, registration, and support through a dedicated contact centre, nationally consistent face-to-face assessments to determine care needs, and referral to Commonwealth-subsidised aged care services.
From a practical perspective, older Australians wishing to access Commonwealth funded aged care services must register through My Aged Care by phone, via their GP or online using self-service. Following registration, the older person is referred for an aged care assessment to determine their level of need, which is documented in a support plan. This assessment is completed face to face, normally in a person`s home. Where required, the assessment organisation will refer the older person to a provider organisation in order to access services. Services include basic home support services, comprehensive home care services and residential aged care services. Once a provider accepts a client for the purpose of providing services, the provider will develop a care plan with the client.
Older Australians who are deaf or hearing impaired may wish to receive sign language interpreting services to assist with initial engagement with the aged care system through My Aged Care and then ongoing support as they navigate the aged care pathway from assessment through to service provision (and re-assessment as the need arises).
