A project to help the underprivileged youth and the families of people with intellectual disabilities will see the light of day in the Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel building. The City of Saguenay announced its financial support for the project of nearly a million dollars, Tuesday, in a press conference. Saguenay pledges to invest $ 992,000 and grants a tax credit over a period of 25 years. Representatives from Saguenay, the Association for the Development of the Intellectually Handicapped Person of Saguenay (ADHIS), Café-Jeunesse and the Sisters of the Congregation were gathered in a solid room of the building to present the good news.

The announcement of the housing project was made in the presence of Simon-Olivier Côté, Councilor, Brigitte Bergeron, Councilor, Sister Hélène Gagnon, Superior General of the Sisters of BonConseil, Caroline Bélanger, Vice-President of CaféJeunesse, and Michel Potvin, Deputy Mayor of Saguenay.
Located in the Saint-Joseph wing, the community housing project will have two clienteles. Twelve units will be at the disposal of the Café-Jeunesse de Chicoutimi to help young people aged 18 to 32 years in the realization of their life projects.

There will also be a floor reserved for ADHIS customers, where 12 rest rooms will be set up. It is the people with a disability who will be able to stay there, while their caregivers will enjoy a moment of respite. The President of the Association, Louisette Couture, took the floor, moved by this news. One who also has a disabled child stressed how much less weight it was for parents who, like her, could have a safe place to put their child for a short time. "Often, we need a break, we have to make a placement of a few days, whatever the reason. Now, we will be able to call ADHIS and ask to go carry our child, "she said.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil sold the Saint-Joseph wing to ADHIS and Café-Jeunesse for a nominal amount of $ 1. In addition, the congregation also provided the project with financial support of $ 200,000. "That $ 200,000 made all the difference. Community participation like this one encourages the City and the other partners to embark on the project. I think this boost is worth a million more, "said city councilor Simon-Olivier Côté, who has worked on the project for more than three years. Sister Hélène Gagnon, Superior General of the Congregation, was proud to say that this project was part of the mission of the congregation, which wants to help the most fragile of the community.
