Nakheel awards $11.9 million contract to build new retail space Al Furjan community Construction and Real Estate

Nakheel a Dubai-based developer announced that it has awarded a contract worth $11.9 million (Dhs44 million) for the construction of a new community centre in its Al Furjan development in the emirate.

The developer has selected Metac General Contracting to construct the new 10,000 square metre and recreation centre, which will contain 24 shops, including a 3,000 sqm supermarket, 10 cafes and restaurants, a swimming pool, sports court, gym and parking for 360 cars. More than 70 per cent of the retail space has already been booked, according to Nakheel.

Construction of Al Furjan’s new community retail hub is scheduled to begin in fourth quarter 2014, with anticipated opening in March 2016.

The Al Furjan community centre is one of four Nakheel nearby malls under development. Jumeirah Park and Retail centres at Discovery Gardens will open this year, while International City’s community centre is scheduled to open in 2015.

By investing Dhs12 billion in new retail and leasing developments, Nakheel has been aiming on building up retail and hospitality projects. Along with the community centres, its retail portfolio consists the new Deira Islands Mall, Nakheel Mall, Ibn Battuta, Dragon Mart and two mall at Jumeirah Village.
