MassDOT awards $210 million South Coast Rail contract Construction and Real Estate

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Board of Directors today awarded a $210 million contract for the South Coast Rail Project, officially moving the much-anticipated project from planning into construction.


The 10-year contract with Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB)/HNTB Corporation for Program and Construction Management awards $12 million in first year funding to begin program management, early design development, and environmental permitting, with additional awards in following years up to the contract limit of $210 million.


South Coast Rail will provide a reliable commuter transit services for residents and business from Boston to Fall River and New Bedford by way of Canton Junction. New stations are outlined for North Easton, Stoughton, Raynham Park, Tauton, Freetown, Taunton Depot and Fall River.


According to the Governor, Deval Patrick – South Coast Rail project will help develop new economic opportunity in communities along the rail corridor, leading to the possible areas of growth and development, we are seeing elsewhere all through the Commonwealth.


The project’s total estimated value goes to $2.3 billion.
