L-3 Unidyne gets $36-Million LCAC Contracts Defence and Security

The Department of Defense (DoD) US assigns two contracts for work on air-cushioned craft (LCAC) to L-3 Unidyne Inc., Norfolk, Virginia.

The first contract is of four landing craft, air-cushioned (LCAC) craft in fiscal 2014, 2015 and 2016 on a firm-fixed-priced value of $22,231,067 is for the service life extension program (SLEP). The new contract will expand the service life from 20 to 30 years, replace obsolete electronics, repair corrosion damage, enhance craft capability, reduce life span cost by developing reliability and maintainability, increase survivability, and enact a common configuration baseline. The LCAC SLEP scope of exercise contains gas turbine engine replacement, repair and upgrade of the buoyancy box, set up of a new skirt, installation of an assimilated C4N equipment package, and completion of selected craft alterations and repair work.

The work will be conducted in Camp Pendleton, California, and is likely to be done by October 2016.

The second contract is of two landing craft, air-cushioned (LCAC) craft in fiscal 2014, 2015 and 2016 on a firm-fixed-priced value of $13,821,952 is for the service life extension program (SLEP). The work details are similar to the first contract, whereas the work will be conducted in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is likely to be done by June 2016. Both the projects were for Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, District of Columbia.
