India: Drake & Scull secures $82.7 million power project Power and Energy

The Uttarakhand Power Sector Investment Program-Project in Uttarakhand, India, awarded the $82.7 million deal for the electrical transmission line to Drake & Scull International (DSI), a regional firm expertise in integrated design, engineering and construction disciplines of General Contracting, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP), Water and Power, Rail and Oil and Gas.

The contract includes construction of a new 400 kV Double Circuit (DC) transmission line.

The Uttarakhand Power Sector Investment-Project is a hydropower project, which will function from Srinagar to Kashipur in Kumaon to improve the hydropower development in Uttarakhand. The working activity for DSI contains the construction of 152 kilometers transmission line on quadruple bundled Bersimis conductor. The survey, design, fabrication and supply of 400 kV DC transmission line towers, supply of conductors and insulators, erection of towers and other related materials, and testing and commissioning of the whole transmission line will also be handled by the company.

According to Ahmad Al Naser, Managing Director of Drake & Scull Engineering - The recent power project in India is very important for us as the construction of the power transmission line will facilitate supply up to 2,500 MW of electricity to the present underdeveloped and expanded North India grid. At present project worth $99.3 million are under operations in India where we have already completed a thermal power project and the Coal Conveyor system in Orissa and even the solar power project in Tamil Nadu in the past. There’s a lot of possible opportunities for our businesses in India, covering the Water and Wastewater sector, our German subsidiary Passavant Energy & Environment have already won two contracts worth USD 14.3 million this year. We are also targeting the Rail Sector to display our expertise and are bidding for upcoming valued projects in the rural and urban rail networks.
