The project's scope of work involves the construction of a 100 megawatts solar power plant located in the Askar landfill site, Southern Governorate, Bahrain.

The project on completion will provide 2.5 per cent of the country’s electricity needs and the nation's vision is to increase energy efficiency by 6 per cent by 2025.

The project will be developed in collaboration with the private sector. It includes the construction of a substation and related infrastructure, the installation of solar panels, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.

The solar power plant project is in line with Bahrain’s National Energy Efficiency Plan and the National Renewable Energy Plan, which was introduced by the government in 2016. The plans aim to source 5 per cent of the country’s electricity consumption via renewable energy and resources. Bahrain expects this goal is to be completed by 2025 and spur a wide range of energy and power initiatives across the kingdom.
