The national building and civil engineering group, Kier has been awarded by Bristol Water a £20m per annum network maintenance services programme.

The contract is scheduled to commence on 1 October and is for five years with a potential five-year extension.

Earlier the network maintenance contract was being delivered by now inoperative Daniel Contractors, but May Gurney snapped up the remaining programme of the previous contract when the firm went under last year.

The scope of work includes repairs and maintenance, metering, new connections, developer mains, trunk mains support and small diameter mains rehabilitation.

According to Gary Freake, Bristol Water director of network - Over the recent troubled time, as our earlier service provider went into administration, Kier have established themselves, through their coherent execution and positive appearance, to be a beneficial partner to Bristol Water and one we are searching to coordinate with, in near future.

The agreement counts on other utility contracts awarded since May, which have constituted the five-year contract, with a probable 10-year extension, for Anglian Water’s Integrated Maintenance and Repair contract.

This contract is worth about £90 million and is scheduled to begin next April, terming the firm’s third award with Anglian Water.

Kier also acquired a second two-year contract, in June, with a potential five-year renewal with Sembcorp Bournemouth Water for its £3.5 million per annum planned and reactive maintenance programme, costing to a potential £24 million.

These considerable new contract awards exhibits the vitality of our offering throughout the services sectors. The utilities award is an additional confirmation of the value that the recovery of May Gurney has added to the group, and further strengthens our utilities capability and stability, says, Haydn Mursell, CEO of Kier.
