In a consortium that constitutes of Hyundai, Samsung, Penta Ocean, Dutch dredging contractors Royal Boskalis Westminster (Boskalis) and Van Oord has been awarded the contract to execute reclamation expansion work on the Tuas Finger One, part of Singapore’s Tuas Mega Port development by Jurong Town Corp.

The total contract value is SG$960 million ($760 million) and the combined Boskalis / Van Oord share is approximately €100 million ($135.46 million).

We have a 15% share of the project, the reclamation work will need 24.5 million m3 of sand, which will be delivered in by long distance bulk carriers. The equipment we set up will rely on the sand supply and where it’s deposited, says, Boskalis spokesman.

Other than the land reclamation work, the consortium will take on dredging and build 3.4 km of quay wall, the remaining work will be carried out by Samsung and Hyundai. Work is scheduled to begin this summer and will last until late 2018.

Singapore will move its complete transhipment port operations to Tuas, an action that will give it 65M TEU annual capacity, nearly double that of today. Phase one of the project is expected to open in about eight years, ahead of the 2027 expiration of leases of Singapore city terminals at Tanjong Pagar, Keppel, and Pulau Brani.
