BAHRAIN: Samsung accomplishes $325 million STP project  Environment and Sanitation

The first of its kind $325 million Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) project in the MENA region has been completed by Samsung Engineering recently.

Samsung is part of a consortium accompanied by Abu Dhabi state investor, Invest AD, and UK water firm United Utilities which has obtained a 30-year concession to construct and operate the plant.

The construction of the sewage treatment plant with a 16.5km deep gravity sewer system and heating system, with a capacity to process 100,000 tons of sewer water daily.

The plant will now be operated and maintained by Samsung Engineering & United Utilities for 27 years ahead.

Samsung states that this is not only the first Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) project in Bahrain but also the first outside of its home market of Korea.

The successful completion of the Muharraq STP project reflects our expertise and capabilities of making use of international standard water treatment technology, Samsung’s next goal is to develop a concrete position in the MENA market, covering Bahrain, for water projects, says, Choong Heum Park, president and CEO of Samsung Engineering.
