Azerbaijan floats tenders to get 62 locomotives Transport and Related Services

Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) is inviting bids for another tender procedure within the framework of WB-financed Rail Trade & Transport Facilitation Project.

ADY reported that the tender subject is services on technical supervision and technical support services in preparation for the procurement of 62 electric locomotives for the Baku – Beyuk – Kesik corridor, which is presently being upgraded.

The $450 million modification project, which is being funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), involves the switching of the route from 3.3 KV direct current to 25 KV 50 Hertz alternating current; modification and upgrading of the signalling and telecommunications system.

The order will include purchase of 50 freight locomotives and 12 passenger units. Expressions of interest must be delivered in the technical support contract by 11 August 2014.

The project targets at enhancing the quality of rail services, improving the financial condition, payment and operational efficiency and capacity of ADY.

The Azerbaijan Ministry of Transport and the World Bank signed the agreement on USD 220 Million additional funding to Rail Trade and Transport Facilitation Project.

In 2013 the World Bank Board of Executive Directors approved additional funding for the Rail Trade & Transport Facilitation Project worth USD 450 Million.

In May Alstom announced it had been awarded an $US 800m project to deliver 50 type KZ8A electric freight locomotives to ADY.
