Amman - Samsung Electronics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Transport Safety Authority (KOTSA) to collaborate on next-generation communication technology that will enable innovation in independent leadership throughout the country. Through this partnership, both sides will build the 4G LTE, 5G and V2X networks and K-City IT infrastructure, a place to test self-driving technology in Korea.

"By building different communication networks such as the 5G, 4G and V2X networks in one place, K-City will provide real experiences in self-leadership for people and businesses for all those interested in this field," said Pyeong Yun Koon, Director of the Korea Transport Safety Authority. To use this open environment as a unique innovation laboratory for partners in this field, which will ultimately accelerate the availability of the age of self-leadership. " "The auto-driving and auto-related field is growing rapidly in the fifth-generation era, and Samsung's commitment to innovation collaboration is ever greater," said Jayhu John, executive vice president and head of global technology services and network business unit at Samsung. "Through our technology expertise in 5th generation technology, we are leading the way in establishing a new industrial ecosystem that will allow the automotive industry to thrive." K-City consists of five simulations of real life, urban and rural areas, communities, highways and parking lots spread over 360,000 square meters. Using advanced vehicle communication techniques, the test area will create an environment for self-driving vehicles and connected vehicles to experience real road conditions, crossings and tunnels. It will also enable the testing of cases leading to hazardous accidents that can be redrafted and replicated, thus contributing to the safety enhancement of both drivers and pedestrians. Aside from the implementation of network equipment, Samsung will build the core IT infrastructure to ensure the least latency and security in K-City.
