Africa Tenders for 1000 coys bid for 12 railway projects Materials and Products

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) yesterday opened bids to prequalify contractors for its 2018 capital projects.

The projects, numbering 12 as advertised recently by the corporation in some national dailies, were bidded for by no fewer than 1000 companies, it was learnt yesterday.

The projects advertised by the corporation included emergency repair and maintenance of tracks, bridges and culverts; renovation and upgrade of railway stations nationwide; procurement of locomotives, coaches, wagons, inspection and cranes; rehabilitation locomotives coaches.

Others are procurement/rehabilitation and installation of equipment for mechanical, electrical, security, printing and ICT facilities; procurement of rolling stock consumables (lubricants, etc) and spare parts and provision of insurance services.

These projects, it was gathered, were captured in the 2018 capital votes of the corporation which had been appropriated and approved.

Daily Trust railway vehicles and of and learnt that about N12bn was approved for the various projects in the 2018 budget of the Federal Government.

The Director of Procurement in NRC, Mr. Ben Iloanusi, in a chat with newsmen before the commencement of the formal pre-qualification exercise taking place at the NRC headquarters Ebute-Metta, Lagos, disclosed that about 1000 submissions were received across the categories.

He said the exercise may be conclude by the end of October, adding that the procurement team had been mandated to conclude the evaluation process in one month.
