The transport and communications sector accounted for SR 4.61 billion representing 9.7% of the total budget expenditure for the year 2019. Most of the sector's expenditure is concentrated in the Real Metro project. In addition, SAR1 billion was allocated to expand and develop Hamad International Airport as part of a development plan at a total cost of SR 10 billion as part of the State's efforts to provide the best services in air transport lines. The transportation projects also include provisions for the implementation of Qatar's public transport program, which is expected to cost a total of SR3 billion until 2021.
The most important transportation and communication projects are the Rial Metro (the largest portion of the allocation is SR 21 billion), the light rail / Lusail transport, the Qatar public transport program and the expansion of Hamad International Airport.
