Sudan is officially known as the Republic of the Sudan. This country is located in the Nile Valley of North Africa and is bordered by Egypt on the north, Eritrea, the Ethiopia Red Sea along with Ethiopia on the east, the Central Africa Republic on the southwest, South Sudan to the south, Libya on the northwest and Chad to the west. Sudan is the third largest country in Africa where Islam is the predominant religion. The River Nile divides Sudan into eastern and western halves. The country was home to innumerable ancient civilizations. Most of these civilizations flourished along the river Nile. Sudan was the largest country in the Arab world and Africa until the year2011 when South Sudan could be segregated into an independent country. Sudan is currently the third largest country in Africa apart from being the third largest country in the Arab world. The country is a member of the United Nations, theArab League, the African Union and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation along with the Non-Aligned Movement apart from being an observer in the World Trade Organization. Khartoum is the capital of the country along with being the political, cultural and commercial center of the nation. Sudan is known to be a federal presidential representative democratic republic. National Assembly is the parliamentary organization that regulates the politics of Sudan. The legal system of Sudan is based on Islamic law. The country suffers from various challenges and history of the country is a proof that the country has suffered from internal conflicts, rampant ethnic strife which includes a couple of civil wars. The country suffers from poor human rights as well which mainly includes dealing with the issues of slavery and ethnic slavery in the country. In any case, the economy of the country has been slowly growing over the past ten years. As per the World Bank report, the overall growth in GDP was 5.2 percent as of 2010 compared to 4.2 percent in the year 2008. Traditionally, agriculture has remained the main source of employment hiring and income of more than 80 percent of Sudanese. Currently, the International Monetary Fund IMF is working alongside with Khartoum government to implement sound macroeconomic policies which led to a period of turbulence during the 1980s when debt-ridden Sudans relations with the World Bank and IMF soured.Finally, it culminated in its suspension from the IMF eventually.
