South Sudan is officially known as the Republic of South Sudan. It is a landlocked country which is located in northeastern Africa which gained its independence from Sudan as of 2011. The current capital of the country is Juba, which is also the largest city of the country. There is a plan that the capital city will be changed Ramciel which is located more centrally, in the future. South Sudan is bordered on the north by the Republic of the Sudan, Ethiopia on the east, Uganda on the South, Kenya to the southeast, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the southwest along with the Central African Republic to the west. South Sudan consists of the vast swamp region of the Sudd which is formed by the White Nile. The territories of now South Sudan were occupied by Egypt. South Sudan achieved their independence in the year 1956 which was followed by the first Sudanese civil war that lasted until 1983. After that, southern autonomy was restored which led to the formation of an autonomous government of South Sudan. Finally South Sudan became an independent state in the year 2011. The country is a member state of the African Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development along with a United Nation’s member state. Since the independence of the country, it had undergone internal conflicts and therefore, has the highest score on the Fragile States Index. The economy of this country is known to be one of the most under-developed in the world. South Sudan has very little existing infrastructure along with a record of high female illiteracy and maternal mortality rates in the world as of the year 2011. As far as the international market is concerned, South Sudan plays a very essential role by exporting timber. South Sudan is rich in a wide array of natural resources like copper, petroleum, chromium ore, iron ore, tungsten, zinc, hard woods, mica, limestone, gold, silver, diamond and hydro power. However, on the basis of South Sudan’s economy, it can be stated that it is a developing country. Also, the economy relies heavily on agriculture just like any other developing country.A subsidiary of SABMILLER, Sothern Sudan Beverages Limited are some of the organizations in the country that cannot be entirely termed as natural resources based companies. Since the later half of the 20th century the oil fields that are located in the south have contributed to the economy of the country.
