Germany is officially the Federal Republic of Germany. The country is known as a federal parliamentary republic in the western-central Europe. Germany comprises 16 constituent states and it covers a total area of 357,021 square kilometers. The climate of the country is largely temperate seasonal. Berlin is the largest city of Germany and is also its capital. The population of the country is estimated to be around 80.7 million inhabitants and in the European Union, Germany is considered to be the most populous member state. It is also the second most popular migration destination after the United States in the world. Since the classical antiquity, several Germanic tribes have occupied the northern part of Germany. During the beginning of the 10th century, the German territories formed a central part of the Holy Roman Empire. After the German Revolution of 1918–1919 and the First World War, the Empire was replaced by the parliamentary Weimar Republic and Third Reich was established in 1933 which ultimately led to the Second World War. Germany lost some of its territory after 1945 after which the country evolved in two states mainly, East Germany and West Germany. The country was reunified in the year 1990. As of 21st century, Germany is a great power and also has the fourth-largest economy in terms of nominal GDP in the world and the fifth-largest in terms of PPP. Being the global leader in several technological as well as industrial sectors, Germany has managed to become the third-largest importer and exporter of goods in the world. It is a developed country with people enjoying an extremely high standard of living. It is also known for maintaining a universal health care system and a comprehensive social security. In the year 1957, Germany was a founding member of the European Communities which became the European Union in the year 1993. It also became a co-founder of the Eurozone. Germany is known in the world for its rich cultural history and has produced many influential artists, musicians, philosophers, scientists, entrepreneurs and inventors.The social market economy of Germany has a highly skilled labour force along with a low level of corruption, high level of innovation and a large capital stock. The industrial sector of the country contributes 28 percent of the total GDP and service sector contributes approximately 71% of the total GDP which included information technology sector as well and agriculture contributes just 1 percent. The average national unemployment rate as of April 2014 was 6.8% which is considered the lowest rate of all the 28 EU member states.
